- Pothos, ferns, peace lilies, and similar plants
Why simple reservoir pots work
The lower water chamber acts as a buffer. Instead of the entire pot drying dramatically between waterings, moisture can move upward gradually.
What to watch
Do not keep the reservoir full constantly for plants that prefer a dry cycle. Periodic drying and oxygen around roots still matter.
FAQ
Is a self-watering planter truly maintenance-free?
No. You still need to refill, clean, inspect roots, and adjust for seasonal water use.
